How to: Create a startup diskette.
Solution:
Right-click the floppy drive in 'My Computer' and select 'Format...' or 'Copy system files only' if the diskette is already formatted.
NOTE: A startup diskette does not enable access to a CD-ROM drive or a network. It is strongly recommended that a startup diskette be created when Windows 95 is originally installed.
1) Put a disk in the appropriate drive.
2) Double-click the 'My Computer' icon. (The 'My Computer' window appears.)
3) To format the diskette:
a) Select the appropriate drive icon.
b) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Format...'. (The 'Format - <floppy drive>' dialog box appears.)
c) Do one of the following:
1] Select the 'Quick (erase)' radio button to reformat a previously formatted disk.
NOTE: The quick format does not scan the disk for bad sectors and can be performed only on a disk that is not damaged.
2] Select the 'Full' radio button to format a disk and scan it for bad sectors.
NOTE 1: Use this option if the disk you are using has never been formatted.
NOTE 2: This will not check for errors on the hard disk.
d) (Optional) In the 'Other Options' group, do the following:
1] Type a label in the 'Label' box or do one of the following:
a] Select the 'Copy system files only' radio button and click 'Start'.
NOTE: The 'Other Options' group will be grayed out while the system files are being copied.
b] Select the 'No Label' check box.
2] Select the 'Display summary when finished' check box.
NOTE: If this option is selected, the 'Format Results' dialog box appears when the format is completed. Click 'Close' to continue.
3] Select the 'Copy system files' check box.
e) Click 'Start'.
